YouTube & web stats
In middle school and high school, I was pretty good at math, except I didn’t necessarily enjoy it. Hence why I never considered making it a part of my major or minor.
What I have discovered over the past couple of years is that my math experiences have translated into a liking for web statistics. Over the past couple of years I have been involved in the creation, design and writing of numerous Web sites.
At the end of last week I tracked this wedding video and watched it get over 3 million views in one day. That got me thinking, what are some of the all time most viewed videos on YouTube? My favorite one in the top 23 (the number that appear on the first page of “Top Viewed”) is titled Charlie bit my finger – again! I first saw this one when a good friend sent it to me along with some notes from a Newman Center meeting.
On the second page I found Michael Jackson’s Thriller Video. In the wake of the death of Billy Mays and Michael Jackson, I blogged about the viral nature of the web and how it played out with the death of those two well known figures. The Thriller video really is quite the production and is unlike music videos today.
